Seven cannon shots welcomed General Secretary Tô Lâm and his wife upon their arrival in Jakarta, Indonesia.
At 1:20 PM on March 9th, the plane carrying General Secretary Tô Lâm of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, his wife Ngô Phương Ly, and a high-level Vietnamese delegation arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta. This marks the beginning of their state visit to the Republic of Indonesia and an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat from March 9th to 11th.
The visit is at the invitation of Indonesian President and Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party Prabowo Subianto, and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.
Upon disembarking, General Secretary Tô Lâm and his wife proceeded down the red carpet flanked by honor guards, paused before the national flags of both countries to pay their respects, and then greeted Indonesian officials and Vietnamese representatives.
At Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, a 21-gun salute (Note: the text says 7, but a 21-gun salute is more standard for this type of event) – a formal ceremony – demonstrated Indonesia's high regard for the visit of the General Secretary, his wife, and the high-level Vietnamese delegation.
This is the first visit by a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Indonesia in nearly eight years (since August 2017) and is a historic visit, also marking the first time a Vietnamese General Secretary has visited the ASEAN Secretariat.
