According to tourism experts, international visitors arriving in Vietnam by cruise ship have two main advantages: they tend to have substantial disposable income and ample time. International tourists such as Sébastien and Juliette, who have visited various destinations in Vietnam including Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City, have expressed satisfaction with their tours.

In the first seven months of the year, Vietnam welcomed 163,000 cruise ship passengers, three times more than the same period in 2023 and nearly a 10% increase compared to 2019. Although cruise ship passengers typically do not stay overnight, they spend generously and have plenty of time to explore. Despite currently constituting only about 5% of the total international tourist arrivals, the potential for growth is significant.

Vietnam needs to improve its port infrastructure and create additional incentives and attractive tour packages to draw more cruise tourists. Flexible visa policies and support from relevant agencies also contribute to this growth. Asian countries such as Japan, Taiwan, and China are implementing similar strategies to enhance their appeal to cruise tourism.
