On September 8, the Institute for Applied Research and Business Innovation (3AI), in collaboration with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Ba Ria-Vung Tau branch, announced and awarded the carbon-neutral destination certificate to Suoi Rao Ecolodge in Suoi Rao Village, Chau Duc District. This marks Suoi Rao Ecolodge as the first carbon-neutral tourist site in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, representing a significant step towards low-carbon (net zero) tourism and a circular economy.

Suoi Rao Ecolodge, located on a gentle hillside with an area of 5 hectares, connects with Xuân Sơn protective forest in Chau Duc District. Sixteen years ago, this area was just a stony land used for short-term crops. The project, led by Le Thi Nga of Thượng Uyển Landscape Architecture Co., aims to build an ecological village that respects and enhances local values, harmonizing with the region's diverse ecosystem of sea, lakes, forests, and mountains.
Through efforts to restore and enhance natural values, Suoi Rao Ecolodge has been recognized for its commitment to conservation and biodiversity. More than 95% of its area is covered with greenery, with over 1 million trees of about 700 species planted. This extensive reforestation and forest management have resulted in significant carbon storage. According to 3AI's assessment, Suoi Rao Ecolodge stores 1,558.86 tons of CO2 over six years (equivalent to 260 tons per year) while emitting only 19 tons of CO2 annually, demonstrating a carbon-neutral balance where only about 7% of stored carbon is used each year.
Chau Duc District Chairman Nguyen Tan Ban highlighted the achievement as a great honor, with the potential to attract nature-loving tourists and investors. The district is committed to supporting businesses and investors in creating high-quality, nature-based products and sustainable resource use.
Trinh Hang, Director of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Tourism Department, expressed that Suoi Rao Ecolodge is a pioneering step towards developing green tourism models based on existing natural conditions. He hopes this model will inspire other local tourist destinations and contribute to a green, low-carbon tourism trend throughout the province.
Le Thi Nga added that Suoi Rao Ecolodge currently accommodates up to 50 guests at a time to ensure a peaceful and exclusive environment. Visitors can enjoy local cultural experiences with musical instruments, campfires, traditional dances, and eco-fashion shows.
