On the morning of October 15, Viettel announced the commercialization of the first Stand-Alone 5G (SA 5G) network in Vietnam, marking a significant milestone in telecommunications technology. With over 6,500 BTS stations installed, Viettel has achieved 100% coverage in the central areas of 63 provinces, industrial zones, seaports, airports, and hospitals nationwide.

During the 20th anniversary celebration in Hanoi, Viettel became the first company to provide SA 5G services in Vietnam. This achievement follows a successful auction for the B1 spectrum (2500-2600 MHz) six months ago, with an investment of over VND 7.5 trillion. Unlike the previous Non-Stand-Alone 5G (NSA) model, which relied on 4G infrastructure, SA 5G is a truly independent 5G network, capable of delivering speeds of up to 1 Gbps with near-zero latency.

Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel, emphasized that with the launch of SA 5G, Vietnam has become one of the pioneering countries in the world to develop and apply 5G technology. It also ranks among the top five nations capable of producing 5G equipment. "A new future for mobile technology begins today," said Thang.

For individual users, Viettel offers 11 prepaid packages starting from VND 135,000 and 8 postpaid packages from VND 200,000, allowing users to subscribe to 5G services without needing to change their SIM cards. Businesses can also take advantage of over 130 use cases for 5G applications, ranging from smart cities, transportation, and healthcare to education and smart manufacturing, all customized to their specific needs.

Meanwhile, other carriers such as MobiFone and Vinaphone are also preparing for 5G commercialization. MobiFone plans to launch services in November, while Vinaphone is conducting a trial period from October 13 to November 15.

The deployment of 5G in Vietnam not only offers superior data transmission speeds but also paves the way for breakthrough applications in areas such as autonomous vehicles, remote surgery, and virtual reality, laying the foundation for a digital society and an era of smart technology.
