After the ceremony honoring the God of Agriculture (Thần Nông), a group of tenant farmers brought food as a gift to their landowning landlord (Bà Địa chủ). These tenant farmers were landless peasants who worked the landlord's fields. Every year, in addition to paying taxes to the government, they also paid rent (tô) to the landlord.
