On August 9, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Dương (born 1982, residing in Trung Thượng Hamlet, Kỳ Tân Commune, Kỳ Anh District) discovered a tortoise weighing 0.4 kg while working on his farm in Đá Bạc, Kỳ Tân Commune.

Recognizing the tortoise as a rare and protected species, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Dương contacted and handed it over to the district's forest rangers.

The golden mountain tortoise, scientifically named Indotestudo elongata, is classified under Group IIB of the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals, and is protected by Vietnamese law.
