On August 9th, Con Dao National Park announced that it had collected several tons of waste from coral reefs and seafloor vegetation, including fishing nets, ropes, packaging, and beer cans. The work was carried out under rough sea conditions, with dive teams collecting trash and cutting fishing nets entangled in the coral reefs.

So far, 2.1 tons of waste have been collected, with some being transported back to shore for recycling and the remainder being disposed of by incineration. The coral reefs with accumulated waste cover about 600 hectares, and the affected areas of beaches and mangroves total over 17 hectares. The waste collection and disposal project has a budget of approximately 1 billion VND, aimed at protecting the habitat, biodiversity, and sustainable development in Con Dao District.
